Almost every “marble vs” question is really the same question: do you want natural stone, with its unique veining and its vulnerability to acid, or an engineered surface that looks similar and shrugs off everything except heat? Granite and quartzite are the natural rivals — harder than marble and far less reactive. Quartz, cultured marble, engineered marble and sintered stone are all manufactured, and differ mainly in how much actual stone is in them, which ranges from about 90% down to roughly a quarter.
The one distinction underneath all of them
Marble is calcium carbonate, so acid dissolves it on contact — that is the whole reason these comparisons exist. Every engineered alternative is essentially an attempt to keep the look while removing that weakness, and every one of them gives something up to do it, usually heat tolerance or repairability.
